Joining A Support Group Can Actually Help

A person suffering from bipolar mania finds it hard to cope with the illness.

They also find it difficult to function in their daily lives as well as their social relationships. The lack of interest in life and feeling of hopelessness the depression brings is crippling to the patient. This depression stage of bipolar causes many patients to commit suicide.
However, the opposite of depression is the mania stage which is an extremely high ecstatic feeling. The patient usually talks a lot, is overly excited, and may have an impractical view of his/her own abilities. The patient can be a danger to themselves or others during this stage as this rush of energy and state of excitement can lead to reckless behavior.
One of the best solutions for helping bipolar patients cope with these excessive mood swings is by joining a support group. This will enable them to discuss their own experiences and ways of dealing with them openly by interacting with others who have the same problem. It is also useful to learn how others deal with their mania and depressions and other problems.

Joining a support group also shows the patient they are not alone in the struggle to live and function with the disorder. You can find motivation to keep following your treatment plan, gain hope for recovery and learn to look forward to a brighter future with the support of others.

Alcohol and Drugs
Majority of bipolar mania victims resort to alcohol and drug abuse in an attempt to control their episodes. Little do they know that this will only make their problems worse. However, treatment for these abuse problems are also dealt with in group therapy as well under the guidance of a professional or other moderator.

Not only will joining a group help solve these abuse problems, it will also take care of other problems related to this disorder. This is why finding the right group, for treatment of this particular case, is extremely important. A support group offers moral as well as emotional support and is a big help for the feelings of isolation that bipolar patients suffer from. If you are suffering from bipolar disorder then making good friends is also important as they will be there for you in the future if your problems ever get worse.
Finding Help Online
Other sources that offer help for people struggling with symptoms bipolar mania are online support groups and forums. It is accessible at anytime of day in case they feel the need to interact and share their problems/experiences with others. They can learn how to cope with their moods and new ways to deal with their own problems by reading about other peoples problems and solutions. Making friends to share personal experiences and talking honestly about anything that comes to mind is also achieved by these sources. You can benefit from tips and advice other patients offer based on personal experience, whether online or offline.
Family and friends can also benefit from joining bipolar support groups. New ways of helping your loved ones can also be learned. Its quite difficult to see a loved one struggling with mood disorders that come from bipolar mania. With the support group, they will help you better understand bipolar and find new ways to deal with the situation.

Will Drug Testing Help Resist Peer Pressure?

There are parents and schools all over the country doing drug testing. Some of the kids see it as an imposition, others welcome it.

drugs addiction treatment

There’s no question that they’re going to be offered drugs, and many students – in grade school, high school, and colleges or universities – don’t want to take them.

But they’re pressured to do so and made to feel like they’re not cool if they don’t.

Drug testing gives them one more reason to say no. Instead of refusing on the grounds that it’s not good for them, or they just ‘don’t do drugs’, they also have the option of saying ‘Are you crazy!? What about the drug testing? That’s just stupid.’

It gives them a chance to say no while making them actually look cooler than the guy offering the drugs.

This might seem like the long way around. Why not just say no? While many adults may not have a problem with being different – and may even welcome the opportunity – most kids and young adults aren’t up to it. Their social life often revolves around school, or people they know from school, and their acceptance into that group.

However, drug testing is by no means the only action necessary. A prerequisite to saying no to drugs is wanting to say no. Drug testing might scare someone into not taking drugs at times, but they may well take them when they know testing won’t be done. On spring break, during the summer or on other lengthy holidays, for example; they know that whatever drugs they take will be out of their system by the time they could be tested again.

By then, it may be too late. If someone takes drugs all summer, there’s a good chance they’ll be addicted, or worse, well before autumn.

Another problem with relying on drug testing is that it often doesn’t include prescription drugs – painkillers, sedatives, tranquilizers, stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall (used as ’study drugs’ in college, and very popular). Pills are now the drugs of choice for many young people and prescription drug addiction and abuse is rampant. Any testing that doesn’t include prescription drugs is going to miss the boat completely.

substance abuse and addiction

How do you get your son or daughter to want to say no? Education is a big factor. They have to understand drugs, what they are, and what they’ll do to them. A strong and loving family life is also vitally important, as is involvement in activities they love that don’t involve drugs.

But no one is immune to the drug addiction or abuse; there are no guarantees.

If you think your son or daughter is already taking drugs, get them help through an addiction treatment center immediately. A good drug rehab program will get down to the bottom of why they’re taking drugs and help them resolve it. If you’re lucky enough to not have that problem, get busy with the education, drug testing, helping your kids build a life with purpose and strengthening the family right now.
